Kids & Teens Martial Arts Program in Greater Boston

Our Kids and Teens martial arts program, like our adult program, is designed to teach age-appropriate self-defense skills and solutions to the types of situations that children and teens are likely to experience. This is one of the reasons why we separate adults and kids/teens from training together i.e., the situations they are likely to face are very different. Kids and teens are more likely to experience violence as part of a social group, compared to adults etc. This requires a different set of skills and abilities to avoid, navigate and deal with such situations. So, whilst there may be a commonality between the techniques, we teach kids and adults, the contexts and scenarios within which we demonstrate these are somewhat different. For self-defense training to be effective it must deal with the “reality” that a person is likely to face, and this is one of the reasons why we teach what we teach based on age.

Our Kids and Teens martial arts program – located just north of Boston - teaches a variety of skills, including striking/punching, grappling/wrestling as well as ground-fighting etc. We don’t teach joint-locks, solutions to chokes and strangulations etc., till the teenage years. This is partly due to physical development and partly due to safety e.g., we don’t want to have younger children practicing escapes from chokes and strangulations with their friends who might not understand the full consequences of such actions etc. We also don’t introduce dealing with weapon threats till the later teenage years, as it is usually only at these ages that they are potentially experienced (our adult program teaches weapon threats and how to deal with chokes and strangulations etc., from the outset). Our Kids and Teens program stresses safety above all else, and that includes safety in training.

Our program, runs Saturday’s between 11:15 AM and 12 PM, and follows the Boston School Calendar e.g., it is organized into two semesters of fifteen classes with breaks for the school holidays etc. Whilst some Kids and Teens martial arts programs in Boston are run almost as a form of after school childcare, our program doesn’t take this approach. Our goal is to teach kids and teenagers real world solutions to the types of violence and danger they are likely to face. As well as teaching physical solutions, we also teach verbal ones, such as how to de-escalate tense, volatile and emotional situations, along with how to resolve conflicts in a respectful and productive manner.

Krav Maga is more than just a martial art; it’s a life skill. It teaches kids and teens to handle adversity, maintain composure in stressful situations, and protect themselves if necessary. Additionally, the physical and mental benefits of regular practice create a strong foundation for personal growth. By enrolling your child in a Krav Maga class, you’re not only equipping them with self-defense skills but also helping them build resilience and confidence; especially when having to deal with and handle uncertain scenarios. We train both kids and teens at the same time, splitting the class up when appropriate. Our next semester runs from January 25th, 2025 – June 7th, 2025, the full cost of which is $270 (this includes belts, gradings etc., there are no other costs). If you would like to register your child and/or teen to take an introductory class, before signing them up for a semester, please use the form below (the cost for this introductory class is $25).
